12 may 2012 | Take Something Beautiful - The Songs of Jesse Younan
In 2008 we lost a friend and a mighty fine songwriter. Jesse Younan died from myeloid leukemia aged just 35, and just months after the release and wide acclaim of his extraordinary album ‘A Good Day for a Migraine’.
Now in 2012, a new album - Take Something Beautiful - The Songs of Jesse Younan has brought together a host of local songwriters to celebrate and pay tribute to the magic that is Jesse’s music.
For this project Lucie recorded a version of Jesse’s haunting song ‘Whatever Floats’ together with musical comrades Hamish Stuart and Dave Symes. Other artists on the album include Jordie Lane, Abbe May, Greg J Walker (Machine Translations), Emily Lubitz (TinPan Orange), M Jack Bee, Jen Cloher, Jai Pyne (The Paper Scissors) and Cameron Potts and Gaby Huber (Dead Letter Chorus). Take Something Beautiful will be released on Monday 14th May through Vitamin Records.

Due to insane volumes of rain - the beautiful Corinbank Festival has just been postponed. In the last few days the situation has, unfortunately, shifted from “..it’s gonna be crazy wet but still fun in yr gumboots!” to…“ongoing rain has rendered the site unusable… and brings real risk of landslides to the only road in or out of the Corin Forest area”. Ah well dear Corin. We’ll see you a bit later in the year!
In other news - PIETA BROWN and THE SAWDUST BOYS (USA) start their Australian tour next week! Lucie will be playing the opening set for each of these shows… as well joining PB and co for a number of songs and duets and such. Sure is set to be a pretty special little tour folks. Lucie will be performing a short set next Tuesday 8th March at the Thornbury Theatre, as part of ‘Half The Sky’ - Melbourne’s celebrations to mark 100 years of International Women’s Day. Clare Bowditch, The Stiff Gins, Deborah Conway, Sally Dastey, The Town Bikes and The Red Brigade, are all also performing on the night… and the show has nearly sold out…! so get your tickets quick folks. Lucie will be touring Europe for a couple of months from mid September - and lots of these tour dates and details are up on the shows page now - with more coming soon.

The European tour has come to an end (with a beautiful last-show-of-th-tour, to another packed house, in Totnes - thanks folks x). Lucie will be back playing in Australia at the end of the month; including three performances at The Mullum Music Fest, and a handful of other shows in Queensland and Northern NSW - details here.
In the meantime - Radio National will be airing an hour-long feature concert by Lucie and the band (recorded in September) this weekend on Music Deli: Friday 13th Nov at 8pm, and then again on Sunday afternoon (Nov 15th) at 4pm. tune in!
And in other news, compilation album HOME GROWN ROOTS volume 4 is out now, and includes Lucie’s ‘As You Find It’, from Black Across The Field. This double CD features a whole host of great local music (including Paul Kelly, Ross Wilson, Jeff Lang…) and can be bought online here.

Well, the second half of this European tour is about to begin - with two solo shows in Prague this week. Over the past month or so Lucie has played about twenty shows with fellow Australian songwriter Tobias Hengeveld, taking in all manner of veunes (bars, cinemas, truckstops, cavenous basements, old stone cellars, farmhouses, cafes, concert rooms…), and all manner of adventures, playing more and more duets as the tour rolls on. One of the Berlin shows was filmed by the very excellent Jack Rath - who then cut together this little clip of a new song of Lucie’s. And there are also some new tour pics up - more added soon.

Two weeks in to the EU tour and all continues very well - thanks to all the good folks who’ve helped make the shows so fun already! Kicking off the tour with a full-house in Paris certainly helped. In fact, the Paris trip went so well that Lucie will return to La Cooperative to play two more shows on November 5th and 6th. More dates have also been announced for Berlin and Istanbul - check the shows page for details.

The Western Australian LT-road-show starts tonight in Margaret River, and then on to Denmark, Albany, Fremantle, Perth, Rockingham and Nanson (near Geraldton.) The next part of the tour sees Lucie head back to Sydney for an intimate solo show at The Vanguard on Thursday June 11th - tickets are on sale now. And then the northern adventure begins. Lucie’s next show is a very special showcase gig at The Corner Hotel in Melbourne, next Thursday 14th May, as part of Vitamin Records’ Indie Six Pack. Be sure to get there early, as the night includes short sets from six of the finest, starting with Tobias Hengeveld, whose new album, ‘All The Lines Are Down’, has just been released, and it’s an absolute stunner! (it’s on high rotation out here at LSRHQ, and we strongly recommend you go get yrselves a copy).

Two of Lucie’s songs have been included in the international ‘Best of 2008’ on US-based online radio show WOT90, with the upfield line coming in at number 3. Other artists with songs in the top 20 include Jolie Holland, Laura Viers, and fellow aussie songsmiths Clare Bowditch and Jen Cloher.
